In March this year, Lao Dongyan, a professor at the School of Law of Tsinghua University, encountered a situation where he asked to "scan his face" when entering and leaving the community. The community where he is located requires the owner to provide information such as real estate certificate, ID card, facial recognition, etc. Lao Dongyan opposed it considering his personal privacy and security and sent a legal letter to the neighborhood committee and the property management respectively. After negotiations, the street finally agreed that the owners can voluntarily choose access card, mobile phone or facial recognition methods when entering and leaving the community.
This incident has become a case of media rush to report. However, the first "no face-rewarding" case of entering the judicial process occurred when another professor in Hangzhou last year.
Mr. Guo, a special professor at a university in Zhejiang, has always been a member of the two-person annual card of Hangzhou Wildlife World. In October 2019, he received a notice of upgrading the park system and was told that the admission method was upgraded to "face swiping", and that the annual card users who do not register for facial recognition will not be able to enter the park normally.
Mr. Guo was unwilling to be forced to scan his face and raised objections to the park's behavior. After failing to communicate with the park, Mr. Guo sued Hangzhou Wildlife World. On June 15 this year, the first trial of this "first domestic facial recognition case" was held. The court said the case will be sentenced at a later date.
Regarding access control access that requires "face scanning" everywhere, many netizens have raised questions: you can report loss when your ID card is stolen, and you can change your number if your mobile phone number is leaked. Can you change your face when your face data is leaked?
